Durante la década pasada el Indie Rock llegó para quedarse. La rutilante aparición de bandas como The Strokes y Arctic Monkeys hicieron un quiebre y marcaron el camino a imitar por muchas bandas y artistas nuevos que los tomaron como referencia.

El impacto fue tan fuerte que el Indie sigue siendo el género dominante de estos días. Sin embargo, cada vez más son los grupos que profundizan en la electrónica como una tendencia. No por nada bandas como The Xx, MGMT, Animal Collective y Foster the People lograron explotar con sus hits muy pegadizos y muchas veces con el apoyo de la crítica.

Tampoco son ajenos a este cambio viejos conocidos de ya varios años de trayectoria como Radiohead, Arcade Fire y los mismos Strokes que apostaron a evolucionar su sonido hacia esa dirección.

Asimismo una nueva oleada de grupos que podrían ser catalogados (no todos pero sí algunos cuantos) como “neo hippies”, tal es el caso de Fleet Foxes, Temples, The Horrors y Tame Impala, así como bandas con un poco más de ruedo como Beach House y Of Montreal, son parte del revival de grupos psicodélicos que también forma parte de la moda de esta época.

La electrónica y lo alternativo también forma parte del Rap. Artistas como Kayne West encontraron su pico artístico cosechando mucho apoyo de la crítica en estos últimos años. Así mismo nuevas revelaciones como Frank Ocean son sorpresas que impactaron con su aparición.

Los pioneros en la década del 2000 del Garage Rock como The Black Keys también evolucionaron en su sonido logrando un rock hasta bailable que los hizo populares en estos años.
